The film is visually and stylistically astounding and though the characters are human there is great balance between real and fantasy/cartoon that sits well. They are a talented bunch that understands the importance of synergy between creating amazing visual spectacles and enchanting stories to go with them. Disney Pixar is almost unparalleled in being able to create such brilliantly empathic characters. The same is true for Brave, there is always a slight disharmony between one generation to the next, the relationship between Merida and her parents is touching but Meridas differing beliefs create some pretty intense drama between her and her mother, Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Pixar always manage to embed into their films strong social ideals of unity and the over coming of obstacles and ones personal flaws. My favourite character and performance and I suspect many others is definitely from Billy Connolly as King Fergus, a gutsy leader to the clans who amusingly has to follow his wife’s lead or instruction.

Because of this there is a little disparity to plot, Meridas seemingly lengthy journey jarring slightly with the fact that every time she returns the clans are waiting in the castle. (Kelly Macdonald) and co make various go betweens. The cast was great but I would have loved a little more time spent amongst the clans who just seem to wait at the castle whilst Merida There are brilliantly mixed troupe of characters that reflect and caricature real Scottish traits hilariously well. However the studios wizardry at creating fun but very touching stories was reaffirmed within 10 minutes of watching the film. I always look forward to anything by the studios but I was unsure how I felt about general change to styling’s and a darker tone reflected by a more human story veering closer to reality than the studios previous works. I got to admit that initially I wasn’t as excited by Brave as much as some of the other Disney Pixar films. Using her exceptional archery skills she bravely *wink* fights to undo a terrible curse.

Young princess Merida is a free spirit who, uncomfortable with her clans customs runs away stumbling upon a strange lady in the forest who grants her one wish.
